888poker Hand Ranking Guide
This hand is at the very top of the Traditional Hand Ranking system. It’s made up of the following denominations: A-K-Q-J-10 all in the same suit. All suits are ranked equally in poker.
Straight Flush is 5 sequential cards in the same suit. For example: a jack-high straight flush in hearts: Jh-10h-9h-8h-7h. If two players have a straight flush, the highest straight card would decide the winning hand.
Four of a Kind
Four-of-a-Kind is exactly what you would assume - 4 cards of the same rank or denomination. For example, Kh-Kd-Kc-Ks beats any lower Four-of-a-Kind hand, like 4 Nines or 4 Deuces.
Pair any 3 cards of the same rank with any 2 cards of the same rank/denomination & you have a Full House. The best possible Full House in poker is A-A-A-K-K, usually referred to as “Aces full of Kings”.
A Flush consists of 5 suited cards. For instance: Kd-10d-4d-3d-2d is a “King-High” Flush. This flush is beat by an “Ace-High” Flush in the same suit, because the Ace ranks higher than the King.
Suits don't matter when assessing a Straight. This hand is made up of 5 cards in a row. Aces can be used for as high or low cards. A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible straight and A-K-Q-J-10 is the highest.
Three of a Kind
This hand consists of any 3 cards in the same rank. An example of a Three-of-a-Kind hand is 5-5-5-A-Q. The 2 odd cards, or “Kickers” are used to comply with the 5-card rule, but don't add any value.
A Two Pair is made up of any 2 cards of the same rank paired together with another 2 ranked cards. For example, A-A-K-K-Q is the best possible Two Pair hand in poker. The highest pair of the two determines the rank.
A One Pair hand comprises 2 cards of the same rank/denomination. A-A-K-Q-J is an example of the best possible One Pair. In Texas Hold'em Poker a One Pair of this calibre is still a very strong hand.
This winning hand is based on the highest-valued card. High Cards are rated in this manner: A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2. The best 5 cards are used to choose the winning High Card hand.
